Tom and Jodie's Wedding

Powderham Castle, Exeter

Tom and Jodie

Jodie and Tom got married at the 600-year old Powderham Castle in Exeter, Devon, and what a brilliant wedding it was. So many happy, smiling faces!

The couple now live in London, after meeting at university in Exeter eight years ago. They both a share a passion for travel and trying new foods.

I joined Jodie, originally from Wales, at the beginning of her big day as she got ready at the castle. Meanwhile Tom, who is from Devon himself, was preparing at his parent’s home, right on the sea in Shaldon.

If you’re looking for a venue with a bit of grandeur, Powderham Castle may be one to consider. The castle is steeped in history, has lots of character, and picturesque grounds that are often used for festivals and events.

Tom and Jodie chose to hold their ceremony in the library which seats up to 100 guests, and their wedding breakfast in the Music Room, with its own secret door. Jodie’s amazing table settings offered a fun nod to the sea with their place names.

The couple had a hired a pizza van to give peckish guests a further bite to eat later in the evening, which was a great touch.

There were some particular highlights of the day for me, as photographer. One of these had to be Jodie’s bouquet toss. Chaos ensued down below among the guests, but it turned out Tom’s young nephew caught it, while sitting on his brother’s shoulders!

Another great moment was the fantastic sunset that we just managed to capture the last of - and I’m so glad we did. The action on the dance floor was second-to-none, and one of the liveliest I’ve ever had the pleasure to photograph!

Jodie and Tom chose to finish their wedding by leaving through a tunnel of sparklers, and straight into a waiting classic London taxi.  What a brilliant and personal end to a really great wedding.

Just wanted to say hello and thank you again for our pictures. Everyone who has seen them so far has said they are the best wedding pictures that they’ve ever seen and I completely agree! I really can’t tell you how much it means to me how well you captured the day – I am blessed with a horrendous memory and when I’m old and even more forgetful, I know these pictures will remind me of the day over and over.
